John Enright's Art Gallery
I was trained at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, then continued my studies in Europe as I toured through fourteen countries including Italy, France, Spain, Germany and England. My passion for classical themes grew as I was humbled before the grand masters of history. Paint is life.

Information About John Enright
My thoughts on art and the theory of art are far too complex to describe in a short paragraph, however I can summarize by saying one must paint from the heart and feel the subject intimately to interpret it well. This gallery is devoted to the subjects of very personal portraits and figurative studies. To study the human face is a science in and of itself. Every line tells a story. To convey the human figure in an eloquent and classical manner is one of my objectives each time I pick up my brush. It is exciting to experience a subject come to life, from a blank white fabric to a thick full color oil study. Shapes become focused and emerge from the shadows into partial light. That interplay is where my playground is. Where virtual light is sometimes so evasive and elusive that the form must be gently coaxed out and into our view. So much of what a painter must do becomes intangible and emmediate. No doubt the greatest paintings are carefully planned, but there is also an element of accidental occurance and spontanaity that must happen. And that is the magic.
Each day I pray that God will give me more insight and more dedication to my craft, to explore with a much deeper reverence the potential of each subject, and to revel in the moments of my life while I still have breath. I feel so fortunate to have such a wonderful family and the desire to evolve and learn in a constantly changing world. Perhaps through these paintings, I can share some of the beauty that I have been so blessed to experience, and to convey in some small way, the depth of despair next to the chance for hope that our humanity continues to strive for. May these paintings resonate a glimpse of that hope.
