Information About Duygu Kivanc
Duygu Kivanc has had an interest in art from the time she was a small child. Her
formal education commenced in Ankara College in Turkey, but she attributes her participation with the Art
Students’ League in New York to have influenced the development of her individual style. With
numerous artistic workshops, she further continued her education when she later moved to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area in 1980. She has participated in several gallery exhibitions in her adoptive home of
Fairfax, Virginia and nearby McLean, as well as several exhibitions in New York City, including a group showing at the United Nations Building. Her paintings are also very popular in Thimpu, Bhutan. Duygu has received several Certificates of Excellence; placements in juried shows; and has also been included in the Encyclopedia of Living Artists – Fourth Edition.
Duygu has a very interesting illustrative style…somewhat two-dimensional, yet contouring enough to provide her portraits with a degree of solidity. Her paintings are excellent studies in composition, design and controlled color as exemplified by “The Question” and the oriental woman in “Daydreams”. Rich reds and browns contrast the pale, ashen faces. Her paintings are the vehicle through which she expresses her moods and feelings reflected in the color, form and compositions. Although she has created many portraits, abstract landscapes have become another favorite subject to exhibit her excellent use of analogous and complementary color. Many of her paintings have rich, striking and bold
color, creating an exciting contrast, while her florals are produced by washes of pastel color expertly applied in a delicate technique. She has done a great deal of traveling, often times influencing the subject matter of her prolific collection of oil or acrylic landscapes and portraits adding further interest to her works.
