Mary Femniak: Double Dog LoveDescription:As I worked on this painting, I was struck by not only how the two handsome German Shepard?s are so obviously well loved but also how this gift came to be commissioned by Sue Foster and her Mother. Sue brought me individual photographs of her Aunt and Uncle's two Shepards. Using two of the best photos, I brought both dogs together on the canvas. This work of art, honors not only the beauty of "Tyler" and "Sadie" but also Sue's loving spirit. Original in private collection. Canvas prints available starting at $25.00Click here for more info. Mary Femniak: Gypsy Lion HorseDescription:It was a shock when I first discovered an article and photographs about Gypsy Horses. This rare breed with fantasy manes, tails and “feathers” showering their legs had populated my dreams- but never did I think they were real! The breed possesses a powerful draft build with sturdy bone and unbelievable coloration variations with black and white being the most popular. As if that was not enough, the horses are endowed with quiet temperaments and impressive athletic ability. I read all I could find about my fantasy horses and every photograph I saw added to my delight. Images of Gypsy Vanner horses at play against different backgrounds that accent the color, spirit and movement of the powerful equines jumped from my brush. After a frenzied five month period my series of five (I fondly call “The Gypsy Vanner Boys”) were finished. Now- not only do they visit with me in my dreams but they are my companions during the day gracing the walls of my studio. Who says dreams don’t come true?! Mary Femniak: His Favorite Turnout/Horse DreamsDescription:The Inspiration behind "His Favorite Turnout" I had bought "Pooh" from a local horse dealer and was immediately taken by his kind face. He exhibited a few troublesome kinks that two years of trail riding and dressage training corrected. His kind way lent itself to carriage driving and in no time at all I was enjoying long road and cross country miles behind his huge Quarter Horse rump. "Pooh" enjoyed his new home with his 20' x 10' stall with free access to a sunny paddock. But his favorite turnout was the three acre pasture that bordered his paddock. If denied access to the pasture (occasionally forced to diet for his own good) he would stand and gaze lovingly at the grass. He would pay me little attention while engrossed in his grass dreams and many times I would stand so close to him I could see the reflection of the pasture tree line in his eye.
